![]() ![]() I can can recommend this model to people who want manual page turn buttons and not be locked into a specific ecosystem like Amazon, Kobo or B&N. This sets it apart from many of the other products in the Onyx portfolio. This is a dedicated e-Reader with no note taking functionality. Underneath the hood is a Qualcomm 2.0G Quad-core (4 x Arm Cortex-A53) processor, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage and it also has a SD card slot capable of an additional 512GB of storage. So if you want to have it at the mid way point so its not too bright, just put both at the same values. I would have the cool and warm light slider bars both at the same setting. You need to blend the two together to get a brilliantly white screen that is similar to the Kindle. If you just use the amber LED lights, the screen looks orange. When you just use the white light, it provides even light distribution, when it is turned into the middle setting, but if you jack it all the way up, the screen looks blue. It seems there might be 27-32 white and amber LED lights. The front lit display overall provides great illumination. ![]() ![]() The cool and warm lighting can be blended together to give you an ideal illumination. You can read at night with the front-lit display and color temperature system. There aren’t that many Carta 1200 products on the market, the only ones users can easily buy is the new Kindle Paperwhite 11th Generation, Kobo Sage and Pocketbook Era. Page turn speed has also been increased by 25%. When you are clicking on the user interface or launching apps, they will be way quicker than the first-generation Leaf. This new version of Carta drastically increases the overall performance of the reader by 35%. The Onyx Boox Leaf 2 features a 7-inch E INK Carta 1200 display with a resolution of 1680×1264 with 300 PPI. The black and white models actually have the same price, they retail for $199 from the Good e-Reader Store Hardware I like this one better since there will be glare or reflections on the screen from overhead lighting or the sunlight when reading outdoors. This provides users with exposed e-paper. The white model has a sunken screen and bezel design, with a small dip. This ensures that the e-paper display will be immune to drops or if you accidently spill some tea or coffee on it, just make sure to wash it right away, since it is not waterproof. The black version, which we are reviewing today, comes with a flush screen and bezel and is protected by a layer of glass. The Leaf 2 is the only e-Reader in the world that has two different models of the same product. Google Play is another great selling point, it comes preinstalled, so you can install your favorite audiobooks, books, manga and other digital content. Fonts will look razer sharp, with no fuzzy anti-aliasing issues you would get with readers that have lower PPI. When reading digital content, you will enjoy the 300 PPI display. If you are a lefthanded reader, the Leaf 2 has a g-sensor, which will automatically rotate the screen, repositioning the buttons. This device might be better than the Kindle, primarily due to the physical page turn buttons, which makes it easier to turn the pages of an ebook than exclusively relying on the touchscreen interface. The Onyx Boox Leaf 2 might just be one of the best e-readers of the year because it is platform agnostic and doesn’t lock you into a specific ecosystem like the Amazon Kindle.
